This individual is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of complex projects, demanding advanced expertise in technology, project management, leadership, and strategic planning. You will ensure that every project upholds the highest standards of quality, efficiency, reproducibility, safety, trust, ethics, and stakeholder satisfaction.  The Applied AI Project Manager plays a pivotal role in staying ahead of current industry and market demands ensuring that we continue to lead in the creation and deployment of AI solutions that are not only competitive and innovative but also address the pressing challenges of our time.

Requirements & Skills:

• An advanced degree in a field such as artificial intelligence, space sciences, robotics, business, social or behavioral sciences, computer science, engineering, or a similar area of study.

• Essential knowledge of the space industry, or familiarity with the working practices of tech companies, government agencies, and academic institutions.

• Demonstrated experience in project management within the science and AI technology domain.

• A solid technical foundation, including a comprehensive understanding or direct experience in software development and web technologies.

• Experienced in leading technical projects, with a preference for those with a background in design thinking, systems thinking, facilitation, or agile techniques and along with a knack for optimizing team performance. 

• Proficiency in utilizing project management software and tools.

• Confidence in managing client/stakeholder relations, consultations, or liaisons.

• Background in business-related functions such as planning, budgeting, and strategic development.

• Experience in organizing, programming, and facilitating events or educational programs.

• An inductive thinker passionate about recognizing, developing, and realizing new opportunities.

The Role

Development and implementation of AI solutions

As the Applied AI Project Manager, your primary role will involve leading the development and deployment of AI solutions tailored to address the critical challenges encountered by our stakeholders. In collaboration with the team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting business development efforts by identifying prospective clients and articulating project requirements, with a keen focus on leveraging the latest capabilities of AI technology.

You will be responsible for delving into the intricacies of AI capabilities, exploring their potential to drive substantial and positive impacts in various domains. Your ability to assess the feasibility of opportunities, considering factors such as data availability, the nature of the problem, and the state-of-the-art (SOTA) in AI, will be paramount in this role. 

Additionally, you will serve as a bridge between technical intricacies and client-facing aspects, ensuring that our solutions not only meet the needs of our clients but also align with their strategic objectives. Your insights and expertise will contribute to shaping our AI initiatives, positioning us as leaders in delivering impactful and innovative solutions to our clients.

This individual must be comfortable moving from brainstorming and strategy to execution and everything in between.

Project management

You will support the success of US-based initiatives from concept to reality, adeptly navigating the full spectrum from ideation and strategic planning to hands-on implementation.  Your role will focus on enhancing scoping, project success, and time to deployment, fostering an environment of continuous improvement by integrating feedback and lessons learned into project processes and methodologies to ensuring the highest success rate in program and project outcomes

The role will also play a crucial role in collaborating with the Program Director on all aspects of the US programs, from formulating and choosing challenges to recruiting and assessing researchers, as well as overseeing the development sprint. This critical function requires a blend of technical acumen, scientific insight, and project management excellence to guide the program to success, ensuring that technological and scientific objectives are met with exceptional results.

The role includes supporting all the logistics and operations that come with running programs and driving world class research results. This means balancing conceptually sophisticated research questions and needs, with a deep sensitivity and appreciation of how to get the best from people under pressure and a critical eye for logistical detail and needs. There will also be a logistical component to this role supporting everything from gitlab/github account management to onsite logistics.

Content Creation and Strategic Communication

The individual in this role must excel in articulating complex scientific and technological concepts, making them accessible and engaging to a diverse audience, including academic researchers and C-level executives at Fortune 500 companies. While direct content production may not always be required, this team member will play a critical role in supporting the Program Director by ensuring that all communications accurately reflect the project's scientific and technological merits.

In this capacity, the ability to craft compelling narratives around projects is essential, even if the individual is not always the one writing from scratch. Instead, they will provide essential support to the Program Director, offering accurate depictions of the science and technology involved to guarantee the integrity of the content. Responsibilities may include assisting in the creation of materials for grants, publication submissions, competitions, and conference proceedings. Additionally, the role may involve helping partners with their communication efforts, from ideating new concepts to fulfilling deliverables (such as drafting tweets for corporate leaders, assisting with press releases, or formulating talking points for presentations), ensuring that every piece of content effectively conveys the project's value and impact.

Managing partners and stakeholders

The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate a proactive approach and a high level of comfort in engaging with multiple stakeholders - including NASA, Google Cloud, Intel, Nvidia, IBM, Lockheed Martin and other leaders in AI.  Additionally, you will collaborate closely with our deployment partners, who play a pivotal role in utilizing the outcomes of our projects to drive real-world impact. 

Your ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes, build strong relationships, and effectively communicate with diverse audiences will be essential in fostering collaboration and driving mutual success. By serving as a trusted liaison between our organization and our partners, you will contribute to the seamless execution of projects and the achievement of shared objectives. Details

Length of Contract: This will be a full time contract. There will be a three-month probationary period, with monthly reviews.

Compensation: $60,000- $90,000 dependent on experience. The breadth of salary bands reflects our interest in finding the right candidate for the role to accommodate varying levels of length and depth of experience and skills we are looking for. We know the best way to support our people is by helping them establish balance. We offer four weeks paid holiday, provide a generous monthly contribution to an HCA of your choice, and promote flexibility and remote working wherever possible. 

Location: This is a remote position, requiring candidates to be based in the U.S. and available during standard U.S. business hours. Occasional business travel will be necessary.
